About Nia Lab:
The lab sessions of the Camp are conducted in between camp seasons for 4weeks on Saturdays. Here students are able to get concentrated, more personalized technical training in specific areas of body work. The labs focus on areas such as the core and chakra strengthening (base, pelvis, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye), joint mobilization, feet, emotional healing and grounding, breath-work, movement technique, posture, generating Rhythm and living in the zone/in harmony. The labs serve as a supplement to the camp. Labs provide training and awareness to help students enhance their camp experience.
About the Natural Rhythm Healing Experience and Instructor:
Farcia De’Toles Medearis is an African Healing Dance Therapist and a Blue Belt Nia instructor. She conducts classes, workshops, personal training sessions and camps in San Leandro, California and surrounding cities. Farcia is also founder and owner of the Natural Rhythm Healing Hut massage, bodywraps & healing fitness company. She has created a unique body work technique that is based in the African tradition using the power of rhythm as a source for healing. This is known as the natural rhythm bodywork technique (all staff therapist are trained in this technique).
Farcia has often been referred to by many clients as the urban medicine women. Her medicine bag is filled with many healing potions such as Nia, African Healing dance, song and the natural rhythm bodywork technique. In fact she considers her Nia and African Healing Dance sessions as more of a treatment. They are prescribed with the utmost care, consideration and intention of healing.
This workshops potion will include classic Nia and African healing dance from the the Wolof tribe of Senegal, the Kru and Bassa people from Liberia, West Africa as well as Soulful-filling dance movement from the USA and other parts of the world. This workshop aims to help individuals learn how to use rhythm as a source of power in their lives and align them with the universal rhythm of nature and life. When we integrate rhythm into our lives on a consistent basis we are more: grounded, calm, inspired, free, joyful, caring and confident.
Farcia has a very comforting style of teaching one that is supportive, sensitive, easy to follow, and effective and is great at setting a non-judgmental atmosphere. Dance movements are low impact and leveled for beginners, intermediates and advanced levels- All movements are achievable.
